Technical Director of Digital Projects - The New Yorker

Condé Nast is seeking a Technical Director of Digital Projects for The New Yorker. 

The technical director will have lead responsibility for production of The New Yorker magazine in digital formats, including existing extensions (XML, Web, tablet, e-reader, and digital-replica editions), one-time projects (apps, E-books), and all future projects on new platforms.

Primary Job Duties
  • Partnering with editors, web staff, IT and the CNP dig-mag group to develop new modes of digital distribution for the magazine and its repurposed content
  • Take the lead in matching new technologies with editorial projects that are on the digital drawing board
  • Conceptualize, execute and supervise digital product production as well as ongoing integration of new digital processes into the larger (digital) workflow of the magazine.
Additional responsibilities include
  • Technical oversight of the print magazine's weekly production cycle
  • Technical training of new hires and interns
  • Management of the department's conversion to new workflows, system upgrades, templates, applications and automation through scripting
  • Management of the magazine's electronic archive and digital preservation strategy
  • Daily management of the print-to-web production process
The technical director will report to the head of editorial production.
Requirements
  • Advanced understanding of electronic publishing (XML, HTML) and digital asset management
  • Complete fluency with Indesign, Filemaker Pro, Applescript, Photoshop, Illustrator
